A unique location on a hidden island

The location

Just a short stroll from the bustling city center of Helsinki, Tervasaari is a location so unique, it feels almost like a world of its own.

Blending the old with the new, TAR restaurant’s original building – dating back to the 17th century – has been revitalized by AOR architects and Tarmo Piirmets, the interior designer of PINK. The restoration preserves the building’s original structure, honoring the rich history of the island.

Tervasaari was once part of Helsinki’s North Harbor and served as the hub for the city’s tar trade. In 1939, the Tervasaari Causeway was built, connecting the island to Pohjoisranta and permanently linking it to Kruununhaka. Today, Tervasaari is open to the public and has been transformed into a charming recreational area.

Now, with the renovations complete, we welcome you to TAR!
